I didn’t even know this platform existed, but you’re well worth following, so here I am. Quora was really important for me between 2017 and 2019 as a place of sanity and intellectual engagement when I was going through insanely difficult times. It has certainly deteriorated beyond repair since, but I have a weird emotional connection with it that’s hard to break. Anyway, looking forward to seeing you on the move.
For a year or more, I keep thinking about writing over here... the business stuff I used to write long ago (12 years? OMG) on Q (now if I write on my life's work, it withers pointlessly on the vine). Hard to believe now, that I dropped my fairly successful blog for Q, and currently I wonder what I'm doing there... Well, maybe this is one more reminder from the heavens that Q is never going to be what it once was. Hmm...
I feel like Quora hasn't been what it once was for... a long, long time. It had already gone downhill by 2020. These days, all I was doing was fending off comments from pugnacious trolls. I hope to have some more quality conversations here.
I have a fun/funny story about Habib and one of those pugnacious trolls. I forget which of his pieces of content it was, but someone was trying to be insulting and called him an anglo-American. lol
I replied to the fool and as I remember it, wasn't terribly kind, and Habib replied to the comment I made. From then on, I've regarded him as my younger brother by another mother. And I mean, we're practically twins! ;)
Unfortunately! It was such a good platform when it started. But at this point, I'm just through. I disabled comments on all my answers. Those who want to find me will be able to. =)
Hi Habib! I don’t know why, but everything I subscribe to ends up automatically using my alias email account (raymac827) instead of my real name email (escott928). And I don’t know how to change it. I left a message about this in a comment on Quora a couple of days ago. I guess it doesn’t really matter, but my name is Elaine Scott and I’ve been following you on Quora since I first got on there in 2019. You have long been my favorite, and will continue to be here as well! Also, I didn’t know where to tell you before, but I also loved A Gazelle Ate My Homework. A truly wonderful memoir!
You’re already sorely missed on “The other platform” that begins with a “Q” and… I fear I’ve said too much already.
I’m glad you got out before the shit really gets ugly, i already feel like there’s a toxic atmosphere and its building steadily, maybe not daily, but it’s definitely noticeable.
So, it’s cool that you’ve moved to pastures greener and i hope that you can feel more comfortable here.
Luckily i’m a nobody so there’s no target on my back (i stopped actively answering directed questions a while ago due to increased backlash from those sharing a brain cell) but a mass exodus of the brightest is only a matter of time.
You saved yourself and i wish you the very best mate.
I can't do without seeing something from Habib Fanny. I've followed you for at least 9 years, maybe longer. I'll be following you on Substack, for sure.
Honestly? I'm about to uninstall the app from my phone but it's hard to shake off the habit. I think it will be a couple of weeks until I stop mindlessly scrolling on the platform entirely.
Welcome to Substack, Habib! I hope you’ll love it here as much as I do. What I enjoy most is the freedom from feed algorithms, fake reciprocity and trolling. It was a post of yours that first got me on to Quora btw. Back in 2016(?). I can’t remember what it was about, but I do remember it was such a fresh and informative perspective, it made me think that Quora might be a good platform to hang around.
I first started Quora in 2016 as well, and Habib was a huge reason for me to stick around. Sadly, it’s not the creature it once was (Quora, not Habib).
Quora will miss you, but I look forward to reading your posts here.

What is it the young people say?
"Hate to see him go...but love to watch him walk away."
...That was meant to be more endearing and affectionate than creepy, for the record.
I love you, man. Glad to see you here.
You know I can't quit you. Subscribed.

Oh I completely “get it”… I’m just not quite there, yet.

I know who who are! Thanks for your kind words. And glad to see you here! Hopefully you'll like my new content.
your flock will stay together and follow you, Lord Shepherd.
Long live Sockistan!
Flock yeah!
Just came here to follow you :)
I'm honored!

Thanks! It had become way too toxic for me. I should have left long ago, in retrospect.
Totally understand mate, hindsight and all that jazz. ✌🏻💙🇬🇧
I look forward to your commentary on the election.

Thank you!
This is great. It would be nice to see more expats from Quora gathering and supporting each other here.
Always looked forward to your writings on Quora. Glad I can do that here.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the recent political events. Thank you for always being thoughtful and inspiring.
I will do my best!
I'll miss you over there, and you're right, conditions have deteriorated badly, but for some unknown reason I remain.
Honestly? I'm about to uninstall the app from my phone but it's hard to shake off the habit. I think it will be a couple of weeks until I stop mindlessly scrolling on the platform entirely.
Oh, don't stop before the "Ghostwriter of Quora" space opens up! It won't be long.

I think I'll like it. I'm looking forward to having better interactions and conversations.

Hahaha
Good to see you on substack. I'm following a few other valuable voices here. I can now include you in the group
